When I think about Joanna and Hugh’s wedding at One Devonshire Gardens two words immediately spring to mind; sophistication and elegance. Actually I lie, it’s three words. Sophistication, elegance and Annabel. I can’t possibly think about their day without thinking about their beautiful little girl too who stole much of the show.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know I don’t get very far without mentioning the weather, so I should probably get that out of the way right now. A good summary would be: much better than forecast, no rain, light wind and some late afternoon sunshine. Pretty perfect considering it was March.
I always say you can tell a lot about a wedding from the bride’s choice of flowers. Joanna’s sumptuous orchids were no exception. I particularly loved the fact that she was able to simultaneously hold the bouquet and a glass of champagne in one hand. That takes some doing.
This was my first visit to One Devonshire Gardens and I have to say I was pretty impressed. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They bent over backwards to make sure I had everything I needed. The hotel buildings themselves are beautiful – originally five Victorian townhouses, bought over a period of 25 years, and now one luxury hotel. Definitely Glasgow West End architecture at its best. Apparently the hotel is well known for celebrity guests including George Clooney and Gwyneth Paltrow. I didn’t spot any celebs while I was there, but I’ll take Hugh and Joanna any day.
