It’s not very often you get to take photographs of a couple who have travelled all the way from South Carolina to renew their wedding vows at a castle outside Aberdeen. You can imagine just how excited I was when Teresa got in touch at the beginning of the year to let me know how she and husband Tim were planning to celebrate 20 years of marriage.
The ceremony took place in the magnificent setting of Kincardine Castle, one of Scotland’s finest Victorian castles set in 3,000 acres overlooking Royal Deeside. It was witnessed by two of the couple’s closest friends who had travelled from the States to be part of the celebration.
I knew their day was going to be special but I wasn’t really prepared to get so caught up in the emotion. I think it was a combination of the beautiful location, the wonderful singing and guitar playing of Jo McCafferty (arranged by Teresa as a surprise for Tim) and the amazing connection between the pair which totally caught me off guard. The little glances, the affection and the sheer intimacy.
I hope that all of my couples are as much in love after twenty years of marriage.
